While many people are familiar with Judd Apatow and his movies, not many people are aware that he has a young daughter who could soon be the star of the Apatow family. Maude Apatow is an up-and-coming actress who is currently starring in the HBO series Euphoria alongside Zendaya.
Since Judd Apatow has been in showbiz for a long time now, it’s not surprising that he has given his daughter some advice on how to make it far in Hollywood. One of his tips for Maude is to always “be deluded.”
Judd Apatow is known for his comedy works
Apatow started out as a stand-up comedian, but he became a Hollywood fixture in the 2000s after writing and producing many popular comedy films. Some of his most well-known movies include Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Knocked Up (2007), Superbad (2007), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), You Don’t Mess With the Zohan (2008), and Bridesmaid (2011). Apatow also worked on several shows such as Funny or Die Presents, Girls, and Love.
Judd Apatow’s daughter Maude is making a name for herself in Hollywood
Apatow is currently married to actress Leslie Mann. The couple has two daughters together: Maude (b. 1997) and Iris (b. 2002).
Both Maude and Iris appeared in Knocked Up, Funny People, and This Is 40 alongside their mother. They played Mann’s children in all three movies.
It seems that both of Apatow’s daughters have Hollywood ambitions, and Maude is currently making a big splash in show business and taking on more adult roles. She had a short recurring role in Girls and is now known for playing Lexi Howard on Euphoria. Maude also has a role in an upcoming film, King of Staten Island, which is produced by her father and stars Pete Davidson.
Maude has shared that, in addition to acting, she enjoys writing screenplays in her free time. She has a dream to become a triple threat in Hollywood.
“I love writing and I love directing,” Maude told W Magazine. “That’s my ultimate goal. And acting. If I could do all of them at the same time that would be cool.”
Why Judd Apatow wants his daughter ‘to be deluded’
While being the daughter of a famous producer has definitely given Maude a lot of opportunities, it does not mean that success is guaranteed for her. Maude is still fighting for a secure place in Tinseltown just like many other young hopefuls her age.
In an interview with Dax Shepard, Apatow shared that he believes there is a trick that can help his daughter build a good career in showbiz.
“I want her to be deluded,” Apatow said. “You want to be in this business? Well, you have to be this insane person who thinks that you can win, who thinks that you’re gonna get the parts, who can show up on set with 100 people and do your scene without being nervous and just kick a**. It does take this bizarre level of confidence.”
Leslie Mann has given Maude acting advice as well
With two parents who have done big things in Hollywood, Maude definitely benefits a lot from listening to their words of wisdom. Mann has also given Maude some valuable advice.
In an interview with Popsugar, Mann revealed that she encourages both Maude and Iris to “write your own stuff so that you don’t have to rely on other people to give you jobs.”
Mann added: “Write your own stuff, make your own stuff, direct your own stuff, which you can totally do nowadays even if you have no money. You can make a little movie for almost nothing. And anyone can sit down and try to write.”
