The Kaduna state government has successfully reunited 39 young individuals, detained for their roles in the #Endbadgovernance protests, with their families.
A short event held at the “Children’s Homes” on Katuru Road in Kaduna saw each child receiving N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone from the state authorities.
In a statement, Governor Uba Sani highlighted his commitment to support the children’s reintegration into society, promising rehabilitation and empowerment resources to help them become responsible citizens.
Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, conveyed the governor’s directive to gather academic qualifications from those who have graduated. “The Governor assured that some would receive financial support for businesses, while others would access vocational training and job placements,” Meyere stated.
Meyere also indicated that the government will keep tabs on each child’s behavior, granting continued support based on their conduct. They recorded essential contact information for effective monitoring and follow-up.
After their release, the children underwent medical assessments and received psycho-social support aimed at fostering personal growth and community involvement. Leaders from both Islamic and Christian denominations provided guidance, stressing the significance of faith and awareness of negative influences.
Meyere noted that the phones were provided to replace those lost during detainment, and added, “The Governor generously awarded each with N100,000 as a goodwill gesture.”
