Kano Market Shut Down Due to Immoral Activities
The Kwanar Gafan Tomato Market in the Garun Malam area of Kano State has been closed due to reports of illegal activities, including pr0stitution, adultery, h0mos3xuality, and other immoral acts occurring within the market.
Chairman of the local government, Hon. Barr. Aminu Salisu Kadawa, announced the closure, highlighting the need to restore order to the area. “Given the market’s transformation into a hub for immoral activities, it must be closed indefinitely to bring back sanity,” he explained.
Kadawa warned that all individuals must leave the market premises by January 1, 2025, threatening strict action against anyone who fails to comply. “This place has become a haven for criminals and other wrongdoers,” he added.
The chairman mentioned that the market will only be allowed to reopen after a comprehensive review of its management and activities.
Islamic scholar Imam Abdullahi Yusif Chiromawa voiced his deep concerns regarding the market’s negative influence on the youth and family values. “The market has transformed into a base for illicit activities involving youths and even married women,” he stated.
In reaction to the order, S.A. Gusau, a representative from the state Commissioner of Police, affirmed the commitment to enforce the evacuation. “It’s time for security forces to assert control over the market. We will diligently implement the vacation order to maintain law and order,” Gusau assured.
The closure has sparked varied responses from the community. While some support the decision as a move towards moral improvement, others are worried about the impact on the livelihoods of traders who depend on the market for their income.
