The Lagos State Government has taken action by demolishing shanties that charged tenants an annual rent of N100,000 near the Ajao Estate Canal.
This information was relayed by the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through a post on the X platform.
Wahab stated, “As part of ongoing efforts to tackle environmental violations and unauthorized settlements in public areas, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), commonly known as KAI, demolished 138 shanties at the canal bank in Ajao Estate on Thursday where illegal tenants were paying rents between N60,000 and N100,000.”
He also reminded that back in May, he highlighted the discovery of an unauthorized apartment beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, charging tenants N250,000 annually.
The commissioner elaborated that this under-bridge location had 86 divided rooms, measuring “10×10 and 12×10”.
