Man Held for Allegedly Assaulting a Minor in Lagos
A 32-year-old individual named Jonathan Oludare was placed in custody by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing allegations of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Oludare, who lives in Ijora Badia, has been charged with one count related to defilement.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, decided not to take a plea from the accused and ordered him to be held in a Lagos correctional facility.
The case has been postponed until November 5 to await legal guidance from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In the earlier proceedings, Prosecutor Insp John Iberedem informed the court that the assault occurred on September 8 at Isale Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos.
Iberedem stated that Oludare engaged in sexual intercourse with the underage girl without her consent.
This act violates Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which mandates life imprisonment for those convicted of defiling a minor.
