Mai Mala Buni, the Governor of Yobe State, has been appointed as the chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum.
This decision was made official during the forum’s fifth meeting, where he will serve for a term of two years.
In his acceptance remarks, Buni thanked the governors and delegates for their trust in him.
He committed to collaborating with development partners and stakeholders to promote progress in the area.
He stated, “It is an honor to be chosen as chair during our successful meeting.”
He further expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their support, saying, “On behalf of myself and the people of Yobe State, I sincerely appreciate this decision.”
Buni reassured the members that he would fulfill his responsibilities diligently and work collaboratively with them and development partners for the forum’s success and regional development.
He also recognized the efforts of the outgoing chair, Governor Ildjima Abdraman from Hadjer Lamis Province, Chad, praising her dedication to the forum’s goals.
During his tenure, Buni aims to enhance cross-border collaboration, security, and sustainable growth in the Lake Chad Basin.
He expressed his gratitude to Abdraman for her contributions, stating, “I humbly accept the responsibility bestowed upon me.”
Buni highlighted the need for concrete actions in line with the meeting’s theme, emphasizing commitment to peace and development in the region.
He is optimistic that attendees will implement the resolutions made during the meeting for the benefit of the community.
