The General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri is set to begin its full international flight operations on January 1, 2025.

This announcement follows a one-day official visit to the airport by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, along with other officials in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.

According to Dailypost, ongoing upgrades to the airport’s facilities aim to improve connectivity for the North East Zone and enhance Maiduguri’s position in the realm of international air travel and cargo services.

During their discussions, Governor Zulum praised Keyamo’s contributions to the aviation sector since taking office under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Governor also expressed the Borno State Government’s dedication to working closely with the Federal Government to ensure a smooth launch of operations by the target date.

Keyamo highlighted the significant role of this project as a representation of development and resilience for the region, indicating that it will be the first fully operational international airport in the North East Zone.
