A 30-year-old motorcycle operator named Michael Olorunfemi has been placed in custody at the Olokuta correctional facility. This decision was made by the Chief Magistrate in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, due to accusations of the sexual assault of his wife’s 17-year-old sister.

Olorunfemi faced a single count charge of engaging in unlawful sexual activity with the minor when he appeared in court.

As detailed by Police prosecutor Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, the alleged incident took place in the evening of August 2024 in the Onigaari vicinity of Irese Road, Akure.

The prosecutor revealed that Olorunfemi, a father of four, who is married to the victim’s sister, is accused of unlawfully having sexual relations with the young girl.

This act reportedly violates Sections 357 and 358 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law from 2006, as noted in the charges against him.

The prosecutor urged the court to hold Olorunfemi in a correctional facility while awaiting further instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

During court proceedings, a statement from the police was read, in which Olorunfemi admitted to the offense. He claimed, “I had sexual intercourse with the victim in the bush. She asked me to take her to her boyfriend’s place, but I stopped near a bush and assaulted her. I promised her money, which I never provided. She subsequently informed her mother, leading to my arrest.”

Chief Magistrate Kolawole Aro consequently ordered that Olorunfemi be held at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, stating that he would remain in custody while the case file is forwarded to the DPP for further advice. The case has been postponed until October 31, 2024, for review.
