As usual, the release of another Star Wars film brings about more conflict between fans. The beloved man we all know and love as Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, took to social media to encourage fans to chill out. Let’s take a look at what he said and how fans are reacting, instead, with more fighting.
‘Star Wars’ fans latest argument is over whether or not a J. J. Abrams director cut exists
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker celebrates two weeks at the box office while avid fans beg Disney to release the J. J. cut of the film.
A recent Reddit post claims that Disney made numerous changes to the film that director J. J. Abrams did not approve of. Star Wars fans took to social media demanding that Disney release the cut scenes by creating the hashtag: #ReleaseTheJJCut.
“J.J. [Abrams]’ original early November cut was three hours, two minutes long,” wrote the Reddit user who is currently “corresponding with someone who worked closely on the production of TROS.”
Some fans do not believe that the Reddit user is using a valid source for these claims. The debate continues, with fans and the original poster adding more fuel to the fire each day. The user added more information about the source of these claims on Jan. 4, 2020.
“Until this so-called anonymous source is confirmed real, I will trust people in the actual media who have real sources,” commented one Reddit user who does not believe the J. J. cut exists. The fans continue to debate whether or not the claims are real.
What did Mark Hamill post on Instagram that ignited further conflict among fans
Also, on Jan. 4, 2020, Hamill posted a cartoon picture on his Instagram account that was an attempt to put into perspective the irrational arguing about the Star Wars films. Fans always debate whether or not the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy are worthy films, so viewer dissent is nothing new for Hamill.
“I wish I spent more time arguing about Star Wars online,” read the cartoon, which pictured an older man on his death bed, surrounded by his family.
“Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone,” Hamill captioned the cartoon with a quote by Pablo Picasso.
Hamill’s cartoon and caption imply that viewers should enjoy the last movie of the Star Wars saga and appreciate it for what it is, rather than debating what it isn’t.
How fans engaged in more arguing in the comments of Hamil’s post
“Thank you for this,” commented one Instagram user. “This fandom sometimes…”
Many fans added laughing emojis and their love for Hamill and Luke Skywalker. However, other fans went straight to criticism and fighting amongst each other.
“Let’s be honest, the sequel defenders are pure cancer,” wrote one Star Wars fan in a comment on Hamill’s post.
Then some fans agreed with this commenter, still, others disagreed, and it continued onward.
