NDLEA’s Major Drug Seizure in Adamawa
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced it confiscated an impressive 4,880 kilograms of illegal drugs and detained 536 individuals suspected of drug offenses in Adamawa State throughout 2024.
During a recent press briefing in Yola, the state Commander, Agboalu Samson, noted that the majority of those arrested were male, with 518 men and 18 women among them.
Samson detailed the types of drugs seized, which included 3,180.36422 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and 1,700.29013 kilograms of various psychotropic substances.
Specifically, the breakdown showed that 1,090.63296 kilograms of Tramadol (covering 1,758,868 capsules, tablets, and milliliters) were seized, along with 6.8665 kilograms of Diazepam (33,259 tablets), 577.60667 kilograms of Exol-5 (1,636,989 tablets), and 19.932 kilograms of codeine syrup (44,592 milliliters).
Additionally, other confiscated items included 0.0381 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 0.015 kilograms of Cocaine, along with 5 kilograms of formalin (known locally as “Suck and Die”) in 22 bottles, and 1.4 kilograms (15 bottles) of Akuskura herbal mixture.
Samson expressed concern that the wide range of drugs highlights the growing issues related to drug trafficking and abuse in Adamawa State.
Nevertheless, the NDLEA reported positive progress in legal actions, achieving 148 convictions in 2024, with prison sentences varying from three months up to 25 years.
“Of those convicted, 143 were males and five females, aged between 18 and 65 years,” he explained, also mentioning that there are 59 ongoing cases at the Federal High Court in Yola.
Furthermore, the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit provided counseling and rehabilitation support to 52 individuals throughout the year, with 40 successfully completing the program.
