1,528.2 metric tonnes of assorted grains have been provided by the National Emergency Management Agency to support the people of Jigawa State. The distribution of these food items from the National Strategic Reserve’s 42,000 metric tonnes has been announced.
The delivery was sanctioned by President Bola Tinubu and is being administered by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to assist vulnerable individuals in all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
One excerpt from the statement emphasized the importance of this action, saying, “Today, in a significant step towards fulfilling this promise, the National Emergency Management Agency is overseeing the handover of Jigawa State’s allocated share of these commodities.
The allocated share for Jigawa State includes 594 metric tons (11,880 bags) of maize, 691.2 metric tons (13,824 bags) of sorghum, and 243 metric tons (4,860 bags) of millet. These food supplies will be fairly distributed across all local government areas within Jigawa State.”
The Federal Government revealed in February its plan to freely distribute 42,000 metric tonnes of grains to mitigate the food shortages in the nation.
In March, reports confirmed that portions of the assorted grains had reached eight states including Kano, Kwara, Kogi, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Taraba.
