New Mutants Wraps Production as Director Teases Demon Bear

Director Josh Boone has announced that The New Mutants has officially wrapped production while also teasing Demon Bear in his post, featuring a glimpse of the bear in the background, for 20th Century Studios’ long-awaited X-Men film. You can check out the Instagram post below!

In the comics, Demon Bear haunted the dreams of Danielle Moonstar and draws power from negative human emotion, capable of teleportation, immense strength, transformation, and corruption of human souls (via Vital Thrills).

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boone also confirmed that they never did any reshoots for the film, despite contrary rumors. Boone told the outlet: “Everybody said we did reshoots! We’ve never done reshoots. And I’ll tell you this: if there hadn’t been a merger, I’m sure we would’ve done reshoots the same way every movie does pickups. We didn’t even do that because by the time the merger was done and everything was settled, everybody’s older.”

20th Century Studios in association with Marvel Entertainment presents The New Mutants, an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.

The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy (SplitThe Witch) as Magik and Maisie Williams (Game of Thronesgen:LOCK) as Wolfsbane, with Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar, and Stranger ThingsCharlie Heaton as Cannonball.

The New Mutants adapts the monthly comic book series of the same name that launched in 1982. Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, The New Mutants follows on a group of teenage mutants as heroes in training in the Marvel Universe. The feature is expected to be a departure from the sci-fi-action spectacle of other X-Men films and is instead being described as a “Stephen King meets John Hughes”-style horror movie.

In November 2017, ComingSoon.net exclusively revealed a leaked concept animatic from the film, which features Wolfsbane, Magic, and Cannonball facing the Demon Bear.

The movie, directed by Josh Boone from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 3.
