A Nigerian spiritual leader has elaborated on his actions following the viral video of him confronting a Christian preacher in a commercial bus in Lagos.
In his Instagram post, the spiritual leader expressed that he felt offended by the derogatory statements made by the Christian about African spirituality.
He took a stand when the preacher began to disparage African traditions and spiritual beliefs.
In a recent clip shared online, he stated, “Only someone with no respect for their parents would insult them right in front of you, all in the name of Christianity or Islam.”
“The man was seated nearby. I didn’t know who he was. The bus hadn’t even traveled for three minutes when he began preaching—whether it was the word of God or something else, I paid little attention. What truly angered me was when he declared that those who worship idols, engage in juju, or follow mermaid spirits are wasting their time.”
“That’s what sparked my reaction.”
“I asked him, ‘If I were to play some music loudly right now, how would people react? You’re disrespecting my forebears just to promote your faith. Is it necessary to belittle someone’s beliefs to advance your own religion? Isn’t that unfair?’
“Pastors and imams often feel the need to mention practitioners of traditional religions to be satisfied. They always cite Ogun, Sango, mermaid worshippers, and those involved in juju, just to ease their own minds.”
