Nigerian National Apprehended for the Murder of His Spanish Wife and Arson at Their Family Residence in Spain

The man who was apprehended is the individual who initially contacted the emergency services of 112 Andalucía to report a fire at a residence located in Benalmádena Pueblo. However, he failed to mention that the property was his own.

A 42-year-old Nigerian man named Augustine has been taken into custody, accused of murdering his 48-year-old Spanish wife, Catalina, in Benalmádena, situated in Spain’s Costa del Sol.

Augustine is also alleged to have set their family home ablaze, where the couple’s three minor children and a child from a prior relationship were present.

This tragic event unfolded around 5:25 AM on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

It was Augustine who made the first call to the emergency services to report the fire, neglecting to disclose that the residence was his.

Local police quickly responded to the scene and managed to rescue the children from the dangerous situation.

Once the fire was extinguished, officers discovered Catalina inside the house showing signs of violence. Augustine was subsequently arrested as the main suspect, and he is further accused of assaulting the children.

Having been together for approximately 13 years, the couple has three children, the oldest being around 11, along with two younger daughters.

Catalina’s mother lived on the upper level of the home, whereas Catalina resided on the ground floor.

Reports indicate that Catalina had recently separated from Augustine prior to the incident.
