A 21-year-old Nigerian man has been taken into custody by the Thai Tourist Police for allegedly providing sexual services through an online platform.
The individual, referred to as Mr. John, was apprehended on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, near Thephasadin Stadium in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan district.
Mr. John reportedly set the price for his services at 12,000 baht, claiming this was simply to help with his expenses while in Thailand.
The operation commenced after authorities received tips about Mr. John’s use of a public website to promote unlawful services.
In response to this information, detectives developed a strategy involving an undercover agent.
The agent made contact with Mr. John via the Line messaging app and arranged a meeting at the stadium to discuss the terms.
After a covert exchange of payment, law enforcement stepped in to arrest Mr. John, seizing his phone, which contained incriminating messages.
During the interrogation, facilitated by an English interpreter, Mr. John revealed he had entered Thailand as a tourist via Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 21, 2024.
His tourist visa allows him to stay until December 19, 2024.
He confessed to providing sexual services online, stating it was a secondary source of income.
He now faces charges related to solicitation for prostitution and has been taken to the Pathum Wan police station for further legal action.
Investigations will continue to assess whether Mr. John is part of a larger network or acting alone.
The police have requested the public to report any suspicious behavior as they work to eradicate illegal activities that could harm the nation’s image.
