1. Tekno – Pana
The Krisbeatz produced song is Nigeria’s number one record this year. Currently, “Pana” is the most viewed Nigerian music video on YouTube with over 14M views. Pana holds the record as the most played songs on radio. Tekno’s Pana is a  real record breaker.

2. Kiss Daniel – Mama
Beyond the 2015 edition of the Headies, Kiss Daniel has proved himself the most out of the “Next Rated” folks.  His April release “Mama” was named the most searched song in Twenty16 by Google. By all standards “Mama” is Nigeria’s number two song of the Year.

3. Phyno – Fada Fada
Industry titans and close friends Phyno and Olamide went on to create a mad jam. Super producer Masterkraft produced this highlife inspired tune that has flared crowds of music lovers all over Nigeria and abroad. Quick ones some Nigerian churches sing this song during praise session. ☺

4. Olamide – Who You Epp
Street Mafia, Olamide, is one consistent artiste in the music industry. “Who You Epp” has had covers running in thousands and one of the viral tunes to be made this year. Who You Epp is number 4 song in Nigeria this year.

5. 2baba – Oya Come Make We Go
Over twenty years and still relevant 2baba joined forces with Kenyan music group Sauti Sol to make an inspiring tune. Oya Come Make We Go is well received and played in Nigeria and across Africa. Oya Come Make We go is very conscious and yet very mainstream too.

6. Humblesmith – Osinachi Remix
God bless whoever thought of an Osinachi remix with Davido. With over 5M YouTube views Osinachi has been one of the most talked about songs in Nigeria thanks to Davido. Osinachi is Humblesmith’s breakthrough song and he is grateful for it.

7. Reekado Banks – Oluwa Ni
Headies 2015 “Next Rated” Reekado Banks decided to kick off 2016 on a very good note with Oluwa Ni. The Altims produced track is the Mavin act best song yet and one of the best tracks in Twenty16.  Many Nigerians can relate to the tales in this song.

8. Mr Eazi – Skin Tight
Ghanaian based Nigerian music star Mr Eazi made a colossal breakthrough into the Nigerian market with “Skin Tight”. Since then Nigerian youths have been more familiar with Oluwatosin Ajibade’s “Banku music”. Eazi’s “Skin Tight” is a certified jam across Nigeria and Ghana.

9. Patoranking – No Kissing Baby
A Nigeria x Ghana music combo from Patoranking and Sarkodie. The beat was good, story was funny and well told and we loved it. No Kissing makes one of the most played songs in Nigeria in the passing calendar year.

10. Timaya – Money ft. Flavour
To seal the top 10 spot is Timaya’s number titled “Money”. There is really no year Timaya doesn’t churn out a hit record. He did it as usual this year only this time he featured contemporary king of highlife Flavour.

11. P-Square – Bank Alert
After putting aside siblings rivalry and family squabble, Nigeria’s favourite group Psquare dropped something to compensate fans. Bank Alert it was, since it release folks have been dancing to it. The song currently has over 8M views on YouTube.

12. Tekno – Diana
Pana was a phenomenal success by all records and statistics. TripleMG golden boy struck the airwaves with another big tune Diana. You already know, Diana is a listener’s choice.

13. Zoro – Ogene
Ogene is a fine blend of culture best interpreted into music. Zoro conquered the east where he is from and went on to win over the west with Ogene. The buzz so far makes it stand at number thirteen on our list.

14. Dbanj – Emergency
Emergency has been a shining gem and a career saver for D’banj, earning him nominations at the Headies Awards. The P-loops produced afrobeat tune made us fall in love with D’banj again and we damn love it.

15. LAX – Gimme Dat
Wizkid’s protege has had a good year so far, special thanks to his club banger “Gimme Dat”. This tune is a big party starter. If you’re a nightlife patron I’m sure you have heard this jam a good number of times.

16. Tiwa Savage – If I Start To Talk ft. Dr SID
Tiwa Savage! Yes the African pop queen is called savage for a good number of reasons. Amid her marital woes Tiwa Savage made her imprint in the industry with an album and hits. If I Start To Talk earned a decent amount of radio and TV rotation this year and the music is top notch.

17. Simi & Falz – Chemistry
Falz and Simi make magic whenever the get to work together. “Chemistry” is a stand out track from their joint EP. They both came through on this one.

18. Flavour – Une Soul ft. Phyno & Zoro
What would you have expected from this combo. Each of the individual artiste on the track has done a lot to promote their indigenous Igbo culture, this was not an exception. This song is another win for indigenous music.

19. Koker – Kolewerk (Ft. Olamide)
Choc boy koker has had a good run this year. Creative and comic lyrics with great beats and the song was off the hook. Everyone seems to know the lyrics, Koker has made  a sing along street anthem with kolewerk.

20. Solidstar – Wait Remix
Solidstar x Tiwa Savage x Patoranking = GOOD MUSIC. Solidstar made his tune “Wait” even bigger with a remix, the result was in fact worth all the effort. Everyone delivered and music fans had another tune to induce ecstasy.

21. Kiss Daniel – Jombo
What an amazing year for G-Worldwide super star Kiss Daniel. Jombo is one of my fave tunes of 2016. The production, lyrics and video are all A+. Kiss Daniel no be fluke.

22. Sugar Boy – Hola Hola
Another G-worldwide act made it here, Hola Hola is a jam that turns you on instantly. What a pity Sugar Boy was not nominated as “Rookie of the Year” for the Headies Awards 2016. Nonetheless, he had one of the best tunes this year.

23. Remisnice – Asalamalekun
Remilekun level gan gan! Baba Hafusa proves he is hip-hop on Asalamalekun, he only prefers to flow in his Yoruba dialect. This is one of the best hip-hop tune you’ll hear out of 2016. The remix featuring Wale can also be substituted here.

24. Phyno – Pino Pino
Amongst other things Phyno perfected his singing skill in 2016. Phynofino sang his heart out on this love/wedding themed song. Like you already know Pino Pino is a favorite at wedding parties especially in the east.

25. DJ Spinall – Ohema
DJ Spinall again ooo… ladies! The famous Nigerian employed the services of Mr Eazi to make a song ladies everybody loves. Ladies and gentlemen, “Ohema” is number 25.

26. Falz – Bahd Baddo Baddest
Arguably the best and most Afro-trap jam out there. A big collabo consisting Falz, Olamide and Davido, who did their bid to make it a stand out jam. Bahd representing Falz, Baddo (Olamide) and the Baddest, Davido completed a trio of multi talented artists bringing their own flavour to the track.

27. Ill Bliss – Nku
Veteran rapper Illbliss has worked very hard to get all the buzz he has enjoyed this year. One of his efforts deserving an applause is Nku ft Storm Rex & Flavous. In the early party of the year it was definitely one of the best songs out.

28. Mayorkun – Eleko
DMW act, Mayorkun came into the Nigerian music landscape with a bang. Eleko is a firecracker and it banged even to the disbelief of critics. Eleko has been a huge success from heavy radio airplay to impressive YouTube views. That makes it one of the most important tunes this year.

29. Korede Bello – Do Like That
Korede Bello secured another hit for himself before the year 2016 peters out. Release in September,the DJ Altims produced number rose to become one of the most played songs on radio this year. Over 6M audio streams and over 3M video views and still counting on YouTube since it’s release. If you ask me, this is big.

30. Yemi Alade – Africa
What more can be said about Africa’s most paid female this year. Yemi Alade’s fame grew stronger as she released “Africa” a song featuring Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol. No need to say much, a song about Africa sells. Yemi Alade completes our list.
