The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), with support from other security agencies, has taken into custody ninety foreign nationals implicated in cybercrime activities.
The Rivers State NIS Comptroller, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, reported these arrests on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
According to Abdulmajeed, the operation was prompted by credible intelligence that led to a location where the criminals were committing fraud against innocent individuals in Nigeria.
In total, 94 individuals were detained, comprising 85 from Cameroon, five from Chad, and four Nigerian nationals. Among the suspects, there were 74 males and 20 females.
He added that all found foreign nationals had entered Nigeria through illegal entry points and lacked proper residence documents during questioning.
Additionally, two Nigerian residents from Rivers State, who allegedly provided housing for the foreign suspects, were also apprehended.
Comptroller Abdulmajeed noted that the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, has mandated an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the situation.
