Nigerian Chess Star Receives SUV from Nord Motors
Renowned Nigerian chess player Tunde Onakoya has renewed his brand ambassador partnership with Nord Motors, an indigenous automobile manufacturer.
Following a friendly chess match with the company’s CEO, Oluwatobi Ajayi, Onakoya was gifted a new Nord A9 SUV.
Expressing his joy on X.com, Onakoya shared pictures of the SUV, thanking Nord Motors for their generosity.
He stated, “I just arrived home to the most delightful surprise from my #nordmotion family—a beautiful new Nord A9 SUV. It’s the most stunning car I’ve ever had, but what makes it special is the love behind it. I’m incredibly thankful.”
“Winning the match was the only way to receive this car.”
In addition to the SUV, he mentioned that his ambassadorial deal has also been extended for another year.
Onakoya remarked,
“I’m thrilled to continue our partnership as Brand Ambassador for another year. Up Naija! Proud to own a beautiful, locally-made car. Thank you #nordmotion for this amazing gift.”
Nord Automobiles released a statement on Wednesday, indicating that the SUV was presented on May 5, 2025, honoring Onakoya’s international achievements while celebrating shared values like innovation and discipline.
Part of the statement read, “In a tribute to competitive spirit, the event included an intense chess match between Onakoya and Ajayi, which ended in a draw, showcasing the remarkable skills of both players and strengthening their partnership.
“Their friendly rivalry reflects their passion and precision—Onakoya in chess and Ajayi in the automotive industry.
“As Onakoya’s relationship with Nord evolves, this new vehicle symbolizes his remarkable journey, akin to his extraordinary chess achievements. With every new challenge he faces, there’s a new car and another victory to celebrate.”
