An inspector from the police force has been taken into custody after being recorded attacking an Uber driver.
This footage of the altercation has rapidly circulated on social media.
The clip depicted the officer reaching into the vehicle from the passenger side and striking the driver numerous times.
“Are you out of your mind?” the officer yelled at the driver while slapping him.
Following this, he forcefully pulled the driver out of the car toward a police van, where other officers also began to intimidate him.
The incident sparked significant public outrage, prompting a response from the police department.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, announced that the officer responsible has been named as Obic Modestus and has been called in for questioning.
Hundeyin stated: “Inspector Obic Modestus has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (@LagosPoliceNG). He will face the Provost Department for suitable disciplinary action.”
“The Lagos State Police Command, guided by CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not tolerate any unprofessional behavior toward the public.”
