A Federal civil servant has reportedly died in a fatal accident on the way to Abuja from Maiduguri, Borno State, for verification of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) on Tuesday, October 17.

It was gathered that no fewer than 20 civil servants were involved in the accident that happened in Gombe State.

Even though details surrounding the accident are still scanty, one of the victims confirmed the death of their colleague in the accident.

The victim told SaharaReporters, “At least one of our colleagues has been killed while on their way from Maiduguri to Abuja for the mandatory IPPIS registration exercise. The accident occurred in Gombe.

“This is really sad, but I will keep you posted as we get more details.”

President Bola Tinubu’s administration had directed 17,000 federal civil servants to input their details into the database of the IPPIS.

It was gathered that since May, the salaries of some workers have been stopped because their details were yet to be captured by the IPPIS.

The registration exercise held in one centre in Abuja saw affected workers trooping to the venue from all locations across the country.

Meanwhile, some of the affected workers have criticised the federal government, saying the move is an insensitive one.
