Rabi Shu’aibu, a 40-year-old woman, has shared a heartbreaking story of how her husband, Usman Muhammed, was killed by a man named Usman Abubakar Saba. The incident occurred after an argument over the water pumping machine in their rented apartment. Shu’aibu explained that her husband had done a lot of renovation in the house and had spent a lot of money on it, which amounted to about six years rent. He had also bought a water pumping machine and was selling water to people. When the machine started to have problems, her husband asked Usman Abubakar to fix it since he was making money from selling the water. However, Usman refused and this led to an argument.
The next day, Usman threw stones at Shu’aibu’s children who were preparing for school and then jumped into their house with a knife and cut their door net. When her husband stepped out of the house, Usman attacked him and started to bite him while squeezing his testicles. People tried to intervene, but the gate was locked. Eventually, her husband fell to the ground with blood coming out of his chest and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Shu’aibu contacted the police who came to inspect the body and took some notes. Eventually, Usman was found and arrested. His relatives asked for a reconciliation and met with Shu’aibu’s husband’s family in the company of some clerics in Agege. The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and said that Usman Abubakar was arraigned in court on Tuesday and later remanded in the correctional home.
Shu’aibu hopes that her husband will be given his due justice and that the killer will be punished and compensation for her husband’s life paid. She is now left with nine orphans to care for all alone, with the eldest being 16 and the youngest 2 years old.
