On November 11, a demonstration took place at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, initiated by concerned patients and their relatives due to ongoing power and water outages.
This unrest follows a 17-day electricity cut-off imposed by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, attributed to unpaid fees.
Under the “band A” tariff plan, the hospital faces a hefty monthly charge of N80 million.
The power failure has severely impacted crucial services at the hospital, jeopardizing surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and other essential medical operations.
A video shared by Oyo Affairs on X captured the gathering, where demonstrators voiced their anger.
“Stop killing people. People are dying here. The managers are thieves. We need light,” one protester expressed.
