The Tsauri ‘A’ Ward Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina has suspended Senator Umar Tsauri, its former National Secretary, due to allegations of undermining party loyalty.
This action was conveyed through a suspension letter signed by Alhaji Danjume Abubakar, the Ward Chairman.
As per the Ward Executive’s decision, reached on September 14, this suspension is temporary and awaits the findings of a disciplinary committee formed to probe various accusations against him.
Tsauri faces charges related to actions deemed detrimental to the party, including inappropriate comments about the national leadership and conduct likely to tarnish the party’s image.
The committee stated that this suspension is in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the PDP’s constitution, which allows local party executives to discipline members who misbehave.
The committee emphasized the importance of maintaining party discipline and unity for electoral success: “We urge all members of our great party to remain committed to the principles of party’s discipline and loyalty. We must work together to build a strong and united party capable of winning elections and serving the interest of our people.”
In response to the suspension, Alhaji Lawal Audi-Yar’adua, the state party spokesperson, confirmed they have received the suspension notice and established a committee to investigate the senator’s allegations, asserting that the party will uphold its constitutional principles regardless of a member’s status.
Defending himself, Tsauri argued that the ward and state entities do not possess the authority to suspend him without adhering to the proper procedures due to his previous position as National Secretary. He stated, “I was not issued with any suspension letter, I only saw it going round on social media written to the party Chairman, Kurfi Local Government.”
He further clarified that the party has established procedures that must be followed before any disciplinary actions can be executed.
