Benedict Akika, a respected figure within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, was reportedly kidnapped by armed individuals on Wednesday night. The abduction took place at his residence in Olorunda, situated within the Lagelu Local Government Area. According to reports from Punch, the attackers, wielding heavy weaponry, forcefully entered his home and made threats of using deadly force against any occupants who resisted.
A close source from the family, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the victim was spending time with his family when the armed assailants burst into his home. They caused a commotion by firing shots indiscriminately to intimidate the residents and bystanders.
“There was a lot of gunfire to create fear among the residents and people passing by,” the source stated. “He was then taken away to an undisclosed location on Wednesday night,” the source added. Another individual familiar with the situation mentioned, “He was abducted last night. This is a man who recently supported several widows and underprivileged individuals by providing them with valuable work equipment worth millions of naira in his Olorunda property.”
At the time of reporting, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was unavailable to provide confirmation regarding the incident.
