Peter Obi Open to Vice Presidency with Conditions

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed willingness to accept a vice presidential role but only under specific conditions.

In a recent interview with News Central, Obi indicated his openness to working with various politicians as the 2027 elections approach. He mentioned his readiness to collaborate with figures like Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former candidate from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

However, Obi emphasized that the focus of such partnerships should center on addressing the needs of citizens rather than merely aiming for election victories.

When discussing potential collaboration with Kwankwaso, he remarked, “I’m willing to work with those who aim to alleviate poverty. If the goal is merely to gain power or win an election, count me out.”

He further elaborated, “I’m not interested in collaborating for power gains. I’m more concerned about how we can ensure no child misses out on education and how we can re-enroll millions of out-of-school children.”

On the possibility of being a vice president to another politician, Obi remarked that he would consider it if he finds someone more capable, asserting that he is not overly eager to become Nigeria’s president.

He stated, “Honestly, my aim isn’t solely to be president; I want Nigeria to thrive. If I see someone who can perform the role better than I can, I would support them.”

Obi also shared that he intends to remain with the Labour Party, saying, “I will be here, and anyone looking to negotiate must clarify their intentions.”
