A recent incident in Igbogene community of Yenagoa Local Government Area in Bayelsa State saw the vandalism of transmission towers T98 and T99, leading to a blackout in the state.
This act of vandalism caused the failure of crucial 132kV lines that supply electricity from Owerri in Imo State through Ahoada in Rivers State.
Governor Douye Diri expressed deep concern over the frequent power outages in the state following this disruption.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Diri highlighted the urgent need to restore power in the state in collaboration with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Bayelsa State Electricity Company Limited’s Managing Director, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, confirmed TCN’s efforts to address the issue and appealed for the public’s understanding during this time.
He also urged residents to be vigilant in detecting and reporting any suspicious activities near the electricity towers to prevent further disruptions.
Kemenanabo stressed the importance of establishing a TCN work center in Bayelsa to ensure swift responses to such incidents, a request the state has been advocating since 2021.
