Tragic Rainstorm Incident in Yobe Claims Child’s Life and Destroys Dozens of Houses
Harsh weather conditions in Tsohon Garin Nangere, Yobe State, led to the unfortunate demise of a 7-year-old boy due to heavy rain and strong winds.
Approximately 20 individuals sustained severe injuries, and around 50 residential homes and shops were decimated by the storm according to reports from the area.
The calamity struck early in the morning at 9 AM while the residents were engaged in their daily routines.
Simultaneously, the Yobe Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), kicked off a workshop at the state level addressing community involvement and awareness on flood readiness and the formulation of an emergency readiness plan for 2024.
The primary aim of this engagement is to exchange local response strategies, connect community-based tactics with state-level initiatives, and craft a community-oriented emergency readiness and contingency strategy.
