Doyin Okupe
Following Tinubu’s reelection during the 65th Ordinary Session of the bloc in Abuja on Sunday, Okupe expressed his congratulations in a message released on Monday.
Okupe remarked, “I congratulate President Bola Tinubu on his re-election as the leader of ECOWAS.
He went on to say, “It is difficult for me to understand why it is the destiny of President Tinubu to come into position of leadership, both at national and regional levels, at periods of hardship and difficulty.
He also shared his hopes for Tinubu to focus on restoring the leadership of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger within the ECOWAS during this new tenure.
Additionally, he encouraged Tinubu to mend relations with Nigeria’s immediate neighbor, the Republic of Niger.
Okupe recommended that Tinubu seek support from former President Muhammadu Buhari and other influential Northern leaders with close ties to the Republic of Niger.
“The Africa Union as a body can be made to officially spearhead this reconciliatory agenda while a diplomatic outreach to Russia for this purpose, especially if handled at the level of the AU, will certainly be helpful,” he suggested.
