Talented and charming star, Sola Kosoko –Abinna does not require much introduction when names of talented Nollywood Yoruba actors are being mentioned in Nigeria. She is renowned for interpreting her roles convincingly to the delight of her fans and lovers all over the world and she tops it with her extreme beauty together with an undaunted humility, she is a favourite among other actresses anytime any day.
Born to veteran actor, Prince Jide Kosoko and late Mrs Kosoko (She died in 1993) on the 7th of January 1976 in Isale Eko in Lagos State, the award-winning Nigerian actress, producer and director had her primary education at the famous Methodist Primary School in Yaba then proceeded to have her secondary education also in Yaba, Lagos. From there, her love for knowledge acquisition propelled her to go for a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Osun State.
She intended to get her degree, then seek employment with the white-collar job, but her father, Prince Jude Kosoko saw her potentials that she would go far in the acting profession, encouraged and convinced her to take up the career; an encouragement that would pay off and make her a success for life.
So in 1999, Sola joined the Nigerian movie industry and the role she played in her first movie, ‘Omo Olorire’ paved way for her because of the brilliant performance she put up with it.
In same 1999, she met her husband, Abiodun Abina. A brilliant young man who went all out and coached her for mathematics and supported her financially until she graduated from the university. The two got married in a modest ceremony at Jibowu Lagos on January 7, 2012.
The ageless actress, who seems to always be in the news for the right reasons, told Concise News in an exclusive interview that her background plays a major role in the choices she makes in life.
Sola said that in all, God is to be credited for her scandal-free sojourn in life.
“Honestly to achieve a scandal free life as a celebrity is not easy, but with God all things are possible which is why I always put him first in everything I do,” the actress said.
“Being an actress exposes one to a lot of things which can either make or mar an individual, but self-control and discipline would help one out of any dicey situation.”
The ‘Omo Bishop’ actress further emphasised that as a celebrity, it is important to tread carefully because of the social status placed on celebrities by their profession.
She said, “I live a very low-key life. I’m both introvert and extrovert but when I am in public glare, I tread very carefully in what I do.
“My father (Jide Kosoko) was very strict while he raised me, he believed so much in maintaining a good image which he instilled in us and today to a very large extent I give him all the credit because it has paid off.”
Quizzed about her take on celebrity marriage breakups, she simply said, “Different strokes for different folks, people are not the same which makes anyone vulnerable to breakup. It can happen to anyone.”
Asked about her stance on domestic violence in marriages, Sola said violence should never be an option to resolve any misunderstanding.
“No matter what, violence is not an option,” she said.
Sola Kosos’s biological mother also birthed Bidemi who is also a pretty and famous actor in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood.
