Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, has raised concerns about leaders in the state gaining power through electoral manipulations rather than by popular vote.

Otti emphasized the need for future governors to be elected based on the genuine will of the people to ensure transparency and fairness in governance.

During a thanksgiving service for the late Victoria Nkolika Onwuneme at Wesley Methodist Church, Umuekwule Afugiri, Umuahia, Otti affirmed his commitment to combating corruption and promoting a unified and inclusive style of governance.

He expressed, “Abia people have reclaimed their right to choose their leaders. I can attest to this firsthand as a native of this state.

“It is evident that many past leaders didn’t secure their positions democratically but through deceptive means.

“I believe the people of Abia are determined to advocate for a transparent electoral process. Henceforth, we must take charge of selecting our leaders.”

Accompanied by key members of his administration and legislators, Otti extended gratitude to the church for its prayers and encouragement towards his government.

He highlighted his administration’s commitment to good governance and ensuring equal distribution of developmental projects across all regions of the state.

Otti also emphasized that his government values residency and tax contributions within the state over tribal affiliations, considering anyone residing and paying taxes in Abia as an integral part of the community.

The presiding priest, Very Rev Ogbonnaya Orji, urged the congregation to maintain faith in God during his sermon.
