Ahmed Dangiwa
Minister Summoned Over Project Failures
The House of Representatives Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning has called upon Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Urban Development and Regional Planning, due to inadequate execution of projects by his ministry in Akwa Ibom State.
This directive was issued by Committee Chairman Awaji-Inombek Abiante during an inspection of various projects in the state, requiring both Dangiwa and four contractors to appear on Thursday.
In a statement from Sunday, Abiante criticized the substandard work completed on the Umu Etuk-Spencer Esin road improvement project in Oron, which was managed by the ministry’s contractors.
Abiante also highlighted concerns regarding the progress of 250 housing units in Uyo, being constructed by three different contractors. Despite receiving 30 percent funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the actual completion stands at less than 6 percent.
“The contractor responsible for the Oron road project has squandered funds on inferior materials,” he noted. “The poor condition of this newly constructed road, which was completed in July, is meant to ease the challenges faced by local residents. The committee is dissatisfied with this outcome.”
He added, “The three contractors – Springwell Intercontinental Resources, Tunsoye Trust Global Link, and Hyosungs Nigeria Limited – involved in the 250 housing units in Uruan, Uyo, and the road upgrade in Oron by Logine Limited, appear to undermine the renewed housing efforts of the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.”
Abiante has instructed the committee’s clerk to “formally summon Dangiwa and the four contractors to appear before the committee this Thursday without fail.”
