A recent incident involved the rescue of a driver and his assistant who were trapped under a mini truck carrying pure water by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.

The Special Adviser on Transportation to the Governor, Mr. Sola Giwa, provided details of the event in a statement signed by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA.

The accident took place near Adeniji, on the descent from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, and involved a mini truck transporting pure water (with plate number SMK 796 YE) and two Mazda vehicles (AGL 576 TG and AKD 531 YC).

It was determined from initial investigations that the mini truck driver lost control due to brake failure, leading to a collision with the two Mazda cars.

Despite consistent efforts to educate drivers on speed limits and the importance of vehicle maintenance, especially the braking system, many drivers are still disregarding the regulations outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

Giwa advised all drivers, including those operating trucks and private cars, to adhere to speed limits, conduct thorough vehicle checks before embarking on journeys within or outside the state.

The injured driver and assistant were swiftly taken to the hospital by the truck owner, while LASTMA personnel efficiently cleared the accident scene to ensure smooth traffic flow towards Lagos Island.

Emphasizing the paramount importance of safety while driving, the special adviser extended sympathies to those affected by the accident and urged all motorists, especially truck drivers, to prioritize safety and refrain from speeding both within and outside Lagos.
