Long ago before civilization, the sense of fashion and style which was exhibited by members of the royal family was one that was strictly adhered to and gave almost no room for unnecessary innovations.
A lot of times, the reasons are often bent on the fact that some of the emerging fashion trends emanated from the western world. As such, it would be counterproductive to have kings or other royals, take the center stage of abandoning tradition and culture for what the white folks are bringing to the table.
Well, this remained the case for the junky number of years until modern civilization becomes even more prominent. For example, some royals or wealthy families started seeing the need to send their children abroad to gather knowledge and return to their homeland to make the best use of the knowledge garnered.
What many failed to understand is that as much as the children were getting the much-needed knowledge, they were also getting imbibed in western culture and tradition.
We take a look at two important royal fathers in Yorubaland. The story about these two is quite interesting because they did not start out their lives as full-fledged royals. Feel free to decide who has a more impeccable style between the Ooni of Ife and the controversial Oluwo of Iwoland.
Ooni of Ife
The current Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, was very much imbibed in the corporate world before his ascension to the throne. He was a businessman who dressed impeccably to suit his everyday activities.
However, upon becoming the Ooni of Ife, the monarch kept to the tradition of donning himself in the royal attire.
“His royal attire, so white one would be scared of their shadow casting a stain on it. The precious stones on the crown and royal staff dazzle as his walks. His shoe, smooth and shiny as a mirror, you could see yourself on them. Intellectually sound, when he speaks, people listen with apt attention,” Independent wrote about him.

Just like the Ooni, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abulrashid Akanbi, had a life outside of the royal family before his ascension to the throne.
His reign has been riddled with controversies from time to time, especially because of how he is so much determined to institute marriage between tradition and civilization. His love for civilization is also very evident in how he dresses. Although known to make appearances in his royal attire, the king also has a taste for occasionally rocking some designer outfits.
In 2019, he sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media after he was spotted in Canada rocking ripped jeans and t-shirt.
