Security Guard Arrested in Lagos for Allegedly Hacking House Help to Death After She Rejected His Advances

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old security guard Barnabas Job in connection with the murder of 26-year-old housemaid Thereza Ekibi. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman of the command, revealed to journalists on Sunday, March 12, 2023 that the incident occurred at Country Home Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos. The suspect had confessed to the crime and was taken to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, along with the cutlass used in the murder which had a bloodstain on it. It is believed that Job had attempted to court Ekibi but when she refused, he became enraged and killed her with a cutlass on March 5, 2023. Neighbours managed to apprehend him as he attempted to flee and subsequently contacted the police at Ikota Division. Ekibi was from Wanikade town in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State and had taken up the job as a house help prior to her death.
