Young Man Arrested for Employer’s Murder in Nairobi

A 21-year-old individual named Victor Ambeyi has been apprehended in connection with the murder of his 78-year-old employer, Catherine Waceke Kimotho, in her residence located in Nyathain, Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya.

On November 12, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Ambeyi tried to conceal the crime by hiding the victim’s body in a septic tank and covering it with a blanket.

Catherine was reported missing by her family on Saturday, which prompted a search. However, they were unable to reach her as her phone was off, making her location unknown.

Detectives discovered her body on Sunday evening, which was found hidden in the septic tank with signs of trauma on the back of her head, likely caused by a blunt object.

The corpse was sent to Kenyatta University Funeral Home while authorities initiated a manhunt for the accused.

A dedicated team of investigators, including Kasarani District Criminal Investigation Officer Justus Ombati and personnel from the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau, quickly mobilized for the investigation.

Using forensic evidence, the police tracked down Ambeyi at his cousin’s house in Kinoo, Nairobi, where he was hiding. Both he and his cousin were taken into custody.

Initial inquiries indicated that Ambeyi had only been working for the victim for a month. During questioning, he confessed to attacking Catherine after feeling shortchanged regarding his wages.

“The suspect, Victor Ambeyi, was captured in Kinoo, Kiambu County after being on the run post the murder of Ms. Catherine Waceke Kimotho on November 10. The body was found at her property while Ambeyi went missing,” stated the release.

“With tip-offs received, DCI officers tracked down the suspect in Kinoo, where he was found with a relative, Collins Seda Wanjau, aged 22. Both were arrested.

“Further inquiries led detectives to Githurai 44, where they located the deceased’s mobile phone at a shop owned by Benjamin Kimani Mwaura, 22, who was also apprehended.

“All three individuals are being held at Kasarani Police Station and will appear in court soon as investigations continue to uncover the motive behind this tragic incident.”
