Authorities have apprehended two domestic workers who were part of the staff of the well-known caterer, Olakunbi Adene based in Ondo state. The arrests were made in connection to the brutal killing of Olakunbi Adene at her residence in the Oda area of Akure, the state capital.
The suspects confessed that they murdered their boss just two days after she threw a grand celebration for her 54th birthday. Their confession detailed that after Olakunbi Adene treated them to a delicious meal as a token of appreciation for their hard work at her party, they conspired and carried out the heinous act.
The perpetrators were apprehended by law enforcement officials who were able to trace two stolen android phones belonging to the suspects back to them post the incident.
An anonymous police source shed light on the incident stating, “The first suspect was tracked down in Idanre where the driver had allegedly escaped, whereas the second suspect was traced in Akure.”
One of the suspects revealed the chilling events of that day explaining how they brutally attacked their boss with cutlasses and knives, causing severe injuries and ultimately taking her life.
The suspects then attempted to cover their tracks by creating a false narrative of a gas explosion in the house, but their plan was thwarted as the explosion did not occur as intended. They proceeded to steal valuables from the premises before fleeing.
Commenting on the tragic loss, Olakunbi Adene’s brother, Adebola Oyeneye, shared the harrowing experience of discovering her body, noting the extent of the damage inflicted.
Her husband, Dele Adene, mentioned that an autopsy would be conducted to further understand the nature of the attack, emphasizing that knives were extensively used in the assault.
“I accompanied the authorities to the residence to look for the knives used in the attack, as one of the perpetrators admitted to the use of knives. The specifics of the injuries sustained will be known post the autopsy,” Dele Adene explained.
