Celebrities are human like us and they have had their fair share of all the highs and lows of life. When it comes to something as serious as murder, no amount of fame is enough to escape the criminal justice system. Some deaths caused by celebrities on this list are the result tragic accidents to premeditated murders.
Here are the stories of 5 celebrities who accidentally or was somehow accused of killing someone.
5. Ibinabo Fiberisima
On February 26, 2006, Fiberesima was driving along Lekki-Epe expressway when she lost control of the wheel and swerved into the inbound lane and rammed her car into Dr. Giwa’s, which resulted in his death. Fiberesima stressed that she was not drunk on the fateful day as opposed to several media reports. Consequently, the actress was arrested and charged to court for manslaughter and reckless driving. She was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos State High court in 2009.
She was later granted bail following an appeal filed by her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina. However, a Lagos High Court, on March 11, 2016, dismissed Fiberesima’s appeal and upheld her five-year jail term. The actress also revealed that since 2006 that the accident occurred and amid the prolonged trial and her eventual conviction, she fell into depression and nursed suicidal thoughts, but with the help of therapy, prayers, and support from family and friends, the ex-beauty queen said she is getting better.
4. Burna Boy
Burna Boy was convicted for murder back in 2010. He was said to have been tried as a minor and sent to jail while living in the UK for allegedly being part of a gang that stabbed someone to death. It was also reported that he was barred from the UK for 15 years. As at today, Burna Boy is free to step foot on English soil. Burna boy has maintained his innocence in this accusation and stated some facts in his song titled “Freedom”.
3. Tayo Odueke
Tayo Odueke popularly called Sikiratu Sidondo accidently killed a year and four months old baby boy known as Daramola in 2009. The incident happened at Muri Busari Close, Oloti Village off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos. On that fateful day, Sikiratu Sidondo was out cruising in her new car only for some passersby to call their attention to a lifeless body of a 16 month-old allegedly said to have been caused by her while trying to reversed her car from the Close. She was reported to have cried to state of unconsciousness. The parents of the deceased choose to not press charges as it was an accident.
2. Rich Oganiru
Mr. Rich Oganiru in 2012 was arrested and investigated in connection with the alleged killing of his wife. The wife was said to have been hospitalized for three months after undergoing fibroid operation in an Abuja hospital with the Nollywood actor abandoning her until the last day she was to be discharged. Although, reports stated that he confessed to the murder of his late wife with poison because of her wealth, he however maintained his innocence. Sources pointed out that both forensic and medical examinations were performed on the corpse of the deceased and that the posthumous examination showed she did not die as a result of poison
1. Rabi Ismail
Rabi Ismail, a popular actress in the Hausa movie industry popularly called Kannywood was accused of drowning her boyfriend, one Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu alias Zazu, in 2002, after she allegedly administered sedative drugs on him. The deceased boyfriend of the actress was said to have lost his consciousness shortly after he finished eating a doped Eclairs sweet handed to him by the accused person. The apex court held that having considered the proof of evidence tendered against the accused person by the Kano state Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, it found her guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death. She was found guilty as charged sentenced to death by hanging. The actress escaped from lawful custody in Hadejia Prison on December 16, 2011 and was recaptured 6 years later.
