An individual was apprehended by troops at the Forward Operations Base in Potiskum, Yobe State for trying to smuggle farm machineries recently distributed out of the state.
The suspect, identified as Mallam Auwal Sule, was found with 11 seed planters which he claimed to have purchased from beneficiaries of the Yobe State Government Agric Empowerment program for N40,000.00 per item at his store in Babban Kasuwa, Potiskum.
The suspect confessed that he was en-route to Kano to sell the items.
Brigadier General Abdulsalm stated, “The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to NSCDC for further action.”
At the launch of the Yobe State Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme, Governor Mai Mala Buni cautioned against undermining government initiatives to revolutionize the sector.
“Government will not tolerate any form of sabotage against our efforts to make agriculture attractive, profitable, sustainable, and economically viable to ensure food sufficiency and security in the state.
“Hence, strict measures will be taken against any individual or group trying to impede our progress. I instruct the security forces to intercept and confiscate tractors and machinery crossing the state borders, while perpetrators will face legal consequences,” he cautioned.
