President Tinubu Stands Firm on Tax Reform

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to his proposed tax reforms, stating they are a permanent fixture of his administration.

This assertion was made during a media interview broadcast by NTA on Monday evening.

The proposed tax reform legislation currently facing scrutiny in the National Assembly has stirred controversy, particularly among leaders from the Northern regions, leading to calls for further discussion among lawmakers.

Despite the pushback, Tinubu maintained that while the reforms may not be universally accepted, they are intended to remain in place.

He emphasized, “The tax reform is a lasting initiative. It is designed to benefit the poor and expand the tax base, enabling a larger segment of the population to contribute.

“An effective leader must make tough decisions at the right moment.”

In light of increasing resistance from certain governors and senators, the President expressed his willingness to engage in discussions regarding the reforms.

“Tax issues are open to dialogue and negotiation. I am open to making adjustments where necessary,” he noted.
