Taxi Driver Taken into Custody Following Discovery of Kidnapped Woman’s Phone with His Spouse

The suspect claimed a passenger had forgotten the phone in his vehicle, leading to his apprehension.

Police have apprehended a taxi driver allegedly implicated in a kidnapping case after the woman’s phone, taken during the abduction, was located in possession of his wife.

In a statement shared by SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, it was disclosed that the victim had been kidnapped and later released upon payment of ransom.

During her captivity, the kidnappers confiscated her phone, which was later found by the taxi driver’s wife.

Upon questioning the wife, she indicated that the phone had been bought by her husband.

When interrogated, the husband asserted that a passenger had mistakenly left the phone in his vehicle, which ultimately led to his arrest.

He remarked;

‘So this taxi driver was detained under suspicion of involvement in a kidnapping. What prompted his arrest? A woman was abducted, released post-ransom payment, and her phone was taken from her. The phone was located in possession of the taxi driver’s wife. Madam claimed her husband gifted her the phone.

The husband was apprehended and he contended that a passenger had left the phone in his car. Now, how can he substantiate that the phone indeed belonged to a fare, and how can he demonstrate he was not complicit in the kidnapping? This underscores the importance of being cautious with phones not in our possession.’
