The Ogun State Police have taken a 17-year-old, Jamiu Adebayo, into custody for the alleged sexual assault of his neighbor’s eight-year-old daughter in Abeokuta’s Aregbe neighborhood.
Reports suggest that Adebayo lured the young girl into his family’s living room, where he then assaulted her.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the situation on Sunday, indicating that an investigation is in progress.
During the incident, the girl’s mother, known only as Olabode, was not at home. Neighbors notified her that there was blood coming from her daughter’s private area.
The girl initially told the neighbors that her injuries were due to a stick. However, upon discovering the situation, Olabode was horrified to see her daughter bleeding.
Despite attempts to get her to explain the circumstances, the young girl maintained that a stick was responsible for the injury.
After some pressure, the girl eventually revealed to her mother that Adebayo had assaulted her.
“The suspect attempted to cover up by taking her to a bathroom to clean up and convincing her to change her underwear, urging her to stick to the narrative that a stick had inflicted the injury,” Odutola explained.
“Police acted promptly, arresting the suspect. The victim and her mother have been provided with medical forms for examination and preliminary inquiries are underway.”
