Panshak Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, a well-known rapper and singer from Nigeria, has shared insights about his time in prison.
In September 2022, a magistrate court in Lagos detained him at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre due to allegations of assaulting a police officer.
He was released after meeting his bail requirements.
In a recent episode of the ‘Listen’ podcast, Zamani described his jail experience as extremely distressing.
He shared, “Whatever narrative you might have heard doesn’t reflect what truly happened. Now that the case is behind me, I can speak freely. I spent six days incarcerated and did not receive any special treatment. This wasn’t just being in a police cell.
“I’ve seen celebrities come out of police cells bragging as if they endured something intense. If you’ve never experienced prison, you truly don’t know hardship. It’s an entirely different realm. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. One must be cautious, as mere mistakes can lead to such places. Many innocent people are there. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.
“Despite that, I made connections and had some enjoyable interactions. It felt like a unique kind of education.”
Regarding the incident that resulted in his incarceration, Ice Prince mentioned that he was simply joking with the police officer when he drove away after the officer entered his vehicle during a stop-and-search.
