The Reasons Behind Nigerian Government’s Desire to Keep Nnamdi Kanu in Custody

IPOB Why Nigerian Government Wants Nnamdi Kanu To Remain In (via Primetweets)

Aloy Ejimakor, the legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is questioning the Nigerian government’s continued detention of Kanu.

He argues that the government lacks sufficient evidence to secure a conviction against Kanu and suggests that his trial has been more of an ordeal than a proper legal process.

Ejimakor points out that the evidence against Kanu is insufficient for a conviction, making his ongoing detention unjust.

Kanu was first arrested in 2015 and later granted bail in 2017. He escaped to Europe following a military invasion of his residence in Abia State. In 2021, he was re-arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria through an extraordinary extradition.

Despite court rulings granting him bail, the Nigerian government has failed to release him, prompting questions about the government’s motives.

In a recent video, Ejimakor highlighted Kanu’s legal journey from his initial arrest in 2015 to his extradition back to Nigeria in 2021, raising concerns about the fairness of the process.

He pointed out that various courts, including the Federal High Court and the United Nations, have ruled in Kanu’s favor, awarding him significant damages for violations of his rights by the Nigerian government.

Ejimakor called on people to speak out against the injustice faced by Kanu and emphasized that the fight should be non-violent.
