Just when you thought ridiculous uses for Tide Pods weren’t a thing anymore, Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance is bringing them back to the masses — and he’s not doing laundry.
The guitarist used Instagram to post a video of a someone attempting to wash their hands with a Tide Pod, captioning the clip: “Protect yourself by washing your hands for at least 20 seconds they said.” The flawed plan goes significantly awry when the gel pod completely bursts, and spraying the person holding it and the person holding the camera. We’re hoping this was just a joke, as it clearly wasn’t Iero’s brightest moment.
The good news? The rest of Iero’s musical homies seem to have their act together, as they announced on March 13, 2020 that they would “postpone [their] performances in Australia and New Zealand,” in an effort to make “the right decision for [their] fans, the band, [their] crew, and [their] families.”
Of course, using Tide Pods for anything other than placing them in your laundry machine has not been approved by any medical professionals. What you should be doing, according to the CDC, if you don’t have soap and water, is using “a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.”
