As everyone patiently waited for comeback news, Big Hit Entertainment decided to drop a 2020 tour announcement for BTS instead. Cool, cool, cool, cool. We’re not freaking out at all.
BTS will tour again in April 2020
On Dec. 23, Big Hit Entertainment posted an ominous tweet that left BTS fans around the world in an excited panic. The company confirmed that BTS will tour again beginning in April 2020, but no further information is known.
“April 2020. Stay tuned,” Big Hit Entertainment tweeted.
The image attached to the tour announcement shows the reflection of the seven BTS members in a purple pool of water. The sole word “Tour” is written on the image with the letters partially reflecting like the BTS members.
Will the tour incorporate Big Hit Entertainment’s raffle system?
In 2019, Big Hit Entertainment incorporated a new ticket-purchasing system for fans. The company first implemented the ticket policy at BTS’s 5th Muster, the group’s Love Yourself: Speak Yourself concert in Saudi Arabia, and Love Yourself: Speak Yourself [The Final].
The ticket system uses a raffle for fans. To enter the raffle, fans must be members of the BTS Global Official Fanclub ARMY. Members enter the raffle using the Weply app. Winners are randomly selected and have the opportunity to pay for and reserve a ticket for the concert.
The raffle process for the Saudi Arabia concert was slightly different than the system in South Korea. For Love Yourself: Speak Yourself [The Final], all of the floor and first level seats were included in the raffle. Winners of the raffle could only reserve one ticket. After the raffle, fanclub members participated in an Early Reservation period for remaining tickets.
For the BTS concert in Saudi Arabia, only one section on the floor was part of the raffle, and winners reserved up to four tickets and also received access to the soundcheck package. There was no Early Reservation period.
The lottery system helps dissuade scalpers, because ticket holders cannot resell tickets. To enter the venue, the name on tickets must match the name on the fan’s ID and fanclub membership card. This ensures that ARMY have access to the best seats before scalpers purchase tickets in the general sale.
Based on how Ticketmaster and Big Hit Entertainment handled BTS’s concert in Saudi Arabia, it seems plausible the raffle system will be incorporated for at least a portion of concert tickets.
When in April will the tour start?
Because Big Hit Entertainment did not include much in the announcement, it’s unclear when the tour will start in April 2020. Exact tour dates will most likely be released one to two months in advance, meaning fans should expect more information in February or March 2020.
Currently, BTS is expected to release their next comeback album in January or February 2020. Tour dates will most likely be announced after the album is released.
The 2020 Billboard Music Awards fall on April 29, 2020. This past year, the BBMAs occurred on May 1, 2019. BTS kicked off their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour extension on May 4, 2019 in Pasadena, Calif. after attending and performing at the 2019 BBMAs.
Based on this, BTS could begin the tour at the beginning of April in South Korea. After the 2020 BBMAs on April 29, BTS could perform the U.S.-leg of the tour as they did with the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour extension.
Until Big Hit Entertainment releases more information, everything except for “April 2020” is speculation. With BTS’s upcoming album and tour, it’s safe to say 2020 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for BTS than 2019.
