“Three ATM Fraudsters Apprehended by Authorities in Yobe”

Yobe State Police have made a notable advancement in combating cybercrime with the arrest of three suspected ATM fraudsters, according to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim.

In Yobe State, three individuals suspected of engaging in ATM fraud have been arrested by police authorities.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim stated in a Saturday announcement that these arrests represent a crucial step forward in tackling cybercrime within the region.

“On December 6, 2024, officers from the State Intelligence Department detained three individuals – Sani Kasim, 35, Nura Umaru, 24, and Umar Suleman, 22 – who are believed to be part of a group targeting ATM users in the area,” he revealed.

The suspects admitted to their involvement, explaining they employed deceptive methods to obtain personal identification numbers from unsuspecting bank clients as they used ATMs.

“They would pose as helpers, switch the victims’ ATM cards, and subsequently withdraw funds from their accounts,”
he elaborated.

The PPRO mentioned that law enforcement recovered several items from the suspects, including 47 ATM cards, 4 mobile phones, and a Mercedes Benz vehicle.

“Six individuals, including one who is visually impaired and lost N181,550, have recognized the suspects,”
he concluded.
