It is no mean feat staying on top. In fact, as hard as it is getting to the top, maintaining a spot in the top of the food chain is even more demanding as it entails more work and what have you.
It is the same around the world, Hollywood is no exception, and just as the nascent Nigerian entertainment industry has recently opened up to multiple possibilities, we have seen our entertainers jostle for the cream on that top tier of mainstream market.
It is real as the sky is blue.
Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, Tekno, Phyno, Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade are some of our biggest names at present. But there are tons of others also doing it big in their various respects.
And overall, it’s been a sweel year for our local entertainers, particularly the musicians.
The international recognitions have been major; from nominations to awards, music deals and red carpet appearances it’s been an absolute humdinger.
But from this point, we take another look at the other side of the scale as this leads us to several artistes who haven’t exactly had a big 2016 in terms of song releases, collaborations and everything in between.
Some of these artistes have a peculiar case and while we aren’t holding brief for them we understand why they would go through 2016 without having dropped major songs or albums because there are different label structures and promotional directions in place for them.
But be that as it may, the truth remains that they simply haven’t been up to much in 2016 and it is only natural to spotlight everyone who falls into this category.
That said, below are 11 Nigerian musicians missing in mainstream music for the most parts of 2016 in no particular order:
