Tragic Accident Involving APC Campaign Vehicle in Edo State
An unfortunate incident occurred involving a campaign vehicle associated with Monday Okpebholo, the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
The collision happened on the Warrake-Afuze road within the Owan East Local Government Area, where the campaign bus collided with another private car.
Sadly, reports confirm that five individuals lost their lives in this tragic event.
These victims were returning from a funeral when the fatal crash took place.
One identified victim was Emmanuel Edionwe.
The bodies of four individuals were transported to the Edo State University Mortuary in Etsako West for burial procedures.
As noted by Daily Post, eyewitnesses claimed that the campaign bus collided with the silver Camry Sedan carrying the victims while navigating a sharp curve, attributing the accident to reckless driving.
A family member of Emmanuel Edionwe, who chose to remain unnamed, shared their grief over the loss.
“Our hearts are shattered. Emmanuel was a kind and gentle soul who shouldn’t have died like this,” they said.
“He was with friends in the silver Camry when the collision occurred, and we learned afterward that five people lost their lives as a result.”
“Among them, Emmanuel and four friends died. Only one remains in critical condition at the hospital,” they added.
Edionwe unfortunately passed away at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, where he was transferred for further medical attention.
According to reports from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), officials were responsible for recovering the bodies from the accident scene. Four victims died on the spot, and one passed away the following morning, leaving only one survivor in serious condition.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Matthew Cyril Zango, provided an update stating that only two fatalities were confirmed, contrary to earlier reports of five deaths circulating on social media.
Zango clarified that the APC’s campaign vehicles were en route from Auchi to Afuze.
He explained that the vehicle carrying musical instruments, referred to as Thunder, collided with the silver Camry Sedan that was returning from a burial while attempting a turn.
“Two occupants of the Camry, who were returning from a burial, tragically lost their lives in the accident,” Zango stated, mentioning that he was awaiting more details from the local FRSC unit commander in Afuze.
