An Nnamdi Azikiwe University graduate, Ifunanya Miracle, tragically passed away during a prank-gone-wrong robbery on the university premises in Awka, Anambra State.
Ifunanya, a Department of Quantity Surveying graduate, sustained fatal injuries after a robbery attempt caused her to hit her head while trying to escape.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on Sunday, June 9, 2024, when Ifunanya, known as Bliss, and her friend Peace, a student of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, were attacked while riding in a tricycle.
A passenger tried to rob them, prompting both students to jump from the moving tricycle to flee, resulting in Ifunanya’s tragic death.
Peace, the friend, suffered injuries and was rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Ifunanya was known for her entrepreneurial endeavors, operating a Point-of-Sale business on campus during her studies.
An anonymous student shared with Punch, “Miracle had just graduated from the university and ran a Point-of-Sale business on campus…The incident happened on June 9, 2024. She did her PoS business near my residence.”
Another student mentioned that the individual who demanded their possessions later claimed it was a prank, with speculations that he had turned himself in to the police.
The university’s spokesperson, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed the details and explained that the prankster, a final-year student, would face consequences following Miracle’s burial.
He stated, “It was not a robbery but an expensive prank… One died and one survived. The families have come to an arrangement, and the pranking student will be disciplined after the burial.”
Dr. Ojukwu warned against dangerous pranks leading to tragic outcomes and emphasized that the responsible individual will face repercussions.
