Ilya Tsaruk, 25, and his 26-year-old wife Sophia, hailing from Snohomish, Washington, were reported to be at the beautiful Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve in Maui when they encountered difficulties on Saturday, September 14.
The Maui Fire Department responded to an emergency call about swimmers in trouble, as reported by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Upon rescuers’ arrival, they discovered Sophia unresponsive in the water, approximately 100 to 150 yards from the shore.
Attempts to revive the couple with CPR proved unsuccessful, and emergency medical services pronounced them dead at the scene.
